Do you ever wonder if your current job is making you feel depressed? Well, it makes sense because most Americans spend over 40 hours a week working. So, if you’re not fulfilled in your job, it drains your energy and also your mental health.

Even if you’re not wasting time at your job, maybe there’s been an organizational change, a toxic work environment, or you just don’t see yourself going anywhere in the present position you’re currently in.

If any of these situations resonate with you, read below to discover how you can create more fulfillment by discovering what you are passionate about.

Before we get into what to-do. . .

Here’s what you need to stop doing:

  1. Stop wasting time worrying while not actually doing anything to improve your situation. Worrying lends to procrastination and ultimately sabotage. So, use the steps below to be proactive about your passion.

2. Don’t accept the status quo. Just because it’s how things are being done now, doesn’t mean it’s how they need to continue to be done.

3. Test your Theory before Telling a Story: Finally Don’t tell yourself that nothing better is out there without actually starting to test your theory.

Next, Read below to start figuring out what you are passionate about:

1. Understand Your Motivation- Most people are motivated around some tasks while being more likely to procrastinate on others. Write down what you find yourself having the motivation to follow-through on and be proactive in completing.

2. Make a highlight Reel of times when you felt most connected to your passion. Try to be as specific as possible naming what you did, who was involved and what was significant to you about the experience. Find the experience of passion within your body, and not just recording times of external validation or recognition.

3. Identify The Who, What and How?: From the list above. Identify the characteristics of the people (WHO) were involved, the skillset or strength you used (HOW) and the result, outcome or product (WHAT) that you created.

4. Design Your Role: Once you have identified the Who, What and How from above, start to assert the things that you want more of (ie. ask, negotiate, research) to see how you can shift your role in your present job to do more of what you are passionate about. Make sure to delegate tasks that are not your job to do.
