Life Coaching and psychotherapy can do for your mind what going to the gym does for your body. In this article I am going to tell you what makes life coaching different from psychotherapy and how you can start implementing some life coaching strategies to start maximizing your own personal and professional potential.

Psychotherapy helps you gain understanding and deep insight into yourself and your past. In short: Psychotherapy answers the question of “why. . . .?”

Life coaching, on the other hand, is about the “how” do I go about creating the change I want?” Life coaching facilitates a process towards an intended result through an effective, creative, collaborative (and professional) partnership.

A big part about coaching is getting clarity on the best actions that are going to yield the highest return on your time. If you want to learnhow to find some simple steps for yourself to get unstuck keep reading . . .

3 Self-Coaching Tools to Get Unstuck

Step 1-Acknowledge Perceived Limitation

95% of the obstacles that we experience in our lives are emotional. Fear is the biggest emotional obstacle that exists for most people. So, unlimiting ourselvles begins with acknowledgeing the beliefs (true or perceived) that make us think we can’t get what we want. Write down your limiting beliefs so you can begin to work with them.

Step 2- Discern External from Self-Imposed Obstacles

I like to begin with the question posed by Byron Katie: “Do you Absolutely, 100% know that this [obstacle] is true?” Reality test your limitation by looking at real-life examples. Are there examples of others that have overcome similar challenges? If so, there is evidence that the obstacle can be surmounted, and maybe even a blueprint for how to do it.

Step 3- Run an Experiment on Your Life

Once you start to create some space around obstacles, you also create more opportunities where you before felt stuck. If you can start to test out some new possibilities by taking action, see if you can create a different result. You now not only diminish the fear, but you also can deter the habit of generating new fears. When you stop fueling fear, you’re in a better position to create a deep and intentional shift in your life that has the power and potential to drive the results you want.

Finally . . . Ask for Accountability

A life coaching session almost always ends with accountability. Some questions you might ask yourself next are:

“What’s one action I can take to test out a new possibility?”

What’s Something I will give myself for homework”

“What Will I commit to reflect or do some thinking about?”
